The meaning of fashion has changed a lot over the years. The fashion industry was estimated to be worth $ 527.1 billion in 2020 alone. Although some brands have introduced the trendiest fashions over the years, there have been some brands that have been making some wacky designs.
From clothing to accessories, there have been many products on the market that have left us scratching our heads. From Prada’s pre-ripped leggings, the Crocs and Kentucky Fried Chicken collaboration featuring hideous crocs, to Zara’s sweaters on her arms, the list goes on and on.
Gucci, a leader in the industry, has also been one of the luxury brands that has introduced quirky fashion at exorbitant prices. Whether it’s shoes or glasses, Gucci has ruined many products for us.
Recently, Gucci has received much criticism for its new range of ‘kaftans’. It’s not so much the design that is getting the reaction, but the price that comes with it. Gucci is selling these Kaftans for an incredible price ranging from $ 2,100 (Rs 1.5 lakh) to $ 3,500 (Rs 2.5 lakh).
As reported by News18, these Kaftans are inspired by Indian culture and embody a ‘floral embroidered organic linen’. Obviously this has upset many Indians around the world and people have taken to Twitter to express their disappointment with the brand.
The post was first shared by a Twitter user who later went viral.
Gucci selling an Indian kurta for 2.5 lakhs? I’ll get the same for $ 500 💀 pic.twitter.com/Opw2mO5xnV

Many people said they wouldn’t even buy it for Rs.500, while some just couldn’t believe that people would actually buy something as basic as these for such a high price.
Don’t be offended, but I won’t buy it for 500 😭.

It just shows that white people will buy anything if it has a brand.

First of all, this is a kurta, not a caftan, second, I can buy 2 like this for less than 500 bucks. I know “it’s a brand thing”, but this is extremely absurd.

It’s crazy how brands charge their customers so incredibly high all in the name of ‘brand’ and fashion. All we wonder is who is going to buy these ‘Kaftans’.
