The Indian Premier League (IPL) has been one of the most interesting things that has happened to India. All the different teams are run by B-Town celebrities and Indian businessmen, each with their own reputations since 2008. Despite the huge following, some of our favorite teams have seen a drop in their brand values across the last 2 years.
Chennai Super Kings (-16.5%)
Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the former captain of the Indian cricket team, has a brand name for himself. Despite their fame individually and leading CSK singlehandedly, the team saw a sharp drop of Rs. 732 in brand equity. This was in 2019, and in 2020, it was down to Rs. 611 million rupees. What a waste!
Knights Horsemen of Kolkata (-13.7%)
KKR has been the IPL champion for 2 full seasons. Despite their luck and fame, they experienced a massive drop in brand value. In 2019, it was Rs. 629 crore and Rs. 543 million rupees in 2020.
Kings XI Punjab (-11.3%)
Kings XI Punjab was one of the few teams to experience a drastic drop since 2019. With a drop of Rs. 40 million rupees, their famous lineup of KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal was not enough to save them.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (-9.9%)
Virat Kohli led the Royal Challengers Bangalore faced a drop of -9.9% despite being one of the most famous teams in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The team faced a drop of Rs. 59 crore last season.
SunRisers Hyderabad (-8.5%)
Fans were shocked to see this team change the entire game and reach third place last season. However, luck did not favor them as they saw a drop in the value of Rs. 41 million rupees once his campaign was completed.
