Meet Akriti Chopra, the CFO-turned-Co-Founder of Zomato

With Zomato Soon to go public, the online food delivery brand has been in the news for a while. Before its IPO, Zomato has elevated its former Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Akriti Chopra, as its chief personnel officer and co-founder of the company.

This news was shared on Wednesday through a company memorandum by Deepinder Goyal, Founder and CEO of Zomato, himself.

Deepinder Goyal stated in the memo, “Tuki (Akriti), I know this doesn’t mean much to you, because you’ve always been one of the founders of Zomato. Sometimes more than me, but never less than me. Thanks. Congratulations on being officially a founder of Zomato. ”

This is not the first time that Zomato has made an executive a co-founder. Mohit Gupta, who was previously named CEO of its food delivery business, was also elevated as a co-founder. Gaurav Gupta, who was previously the COO, is now also the co-founder.

Akriti, who previously worked with PwC, had joined Zomato in 2011 as a senior manager of finance and operations. She later became a chief financial officer and chief of staff.

During his long tenure at Zomato, Chopra has helped build the company’s internal legality, governance, risk and compliance teams. He was also part of the company’s global growth and international operations teams.

In April this year, Zomato submitted its draft red herring prospectus (DRHP) to market regulator SEBI, proposing an initial public offering of 8,250 million rupees. It appears that prior to the launch of its public offering later this year, Zomato has been restructuring its senior management.

Kaushik Dutta, director of the Thought Arbitrage Research Institute, assumed the presidency; Gunjan Tilak Raj Soni, CEO of Zalora Group, an e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia; Namita Gupta, founder of Airveda, maker of application-enabled air quality monitors; Sutapa Banerjee, Behavioral Awareness Advisor; and Aparna Popat, a professional badminton player joined the board, CNBC TV18 reported.
