We all know the phrase “hard work pays off.” If you really want something and you give your 100% to achieve it, you are guaranteed to be successful. It may sound like a rumor, but something similar has happened with someone who achieved their goals with hard work and dedication.
Abdul Alim |, a security guard in Zoho, which is a SaaS corporation based in Chennai, has now become a programmer in-house. The story came to light when Abdul Alim shared the story of his journey and his humble beginnings in the company as a security guard 8 years ago in LinkedIn. He is currently employed as a member of the Zoho technical staff.
In 2013, Abdul left his home in Assam with only Rs 1000. Of which he spent Rs 800 on a train ticket. After wandering the streets for 2 months, he finally found a job as a security guard. His hard work and sincerity were visible to everyone and one day one of the top employees of the company asked him his name and told him that he was destined for greatness.
The top executive, Shibu Alexis, took a great interest in Abdul and asked him about his educational background and computer skills. To which Abdul shared that he had learned HTML in school. Seeing his interest in learning more and his capabilities, the senior executive offered to help him learn about programming.
Abdul completed his 12-hour shift every day and then went to his superior to learn. After about eight months, Abdul created a small application that takes user input and displays it. Then the senior employee showed this application to his manager and he was really impressed and wanted to interview him.
Being only the 10th pass, Alim wasn’t sure if he would ever be able to interview for a job at the company. But to his surprise, Zoho didn’t particularly care if Alim had a college degree. His mentor told him that you don’t need a college degree at Zoho. What matters here is you and your skills. In the end, he was able to pass the interview leaving a great impact on his managers.
